Random Innofader thoughts
I guess I’ve been using this blog to bitch about random things a bit too much so now it’s back to Innofader stuff.
Getting a lot of requests to fit many new Pioneer products – DJM-T1, DJM-850, and a few others. I don’t have any on my end and haven’t had a chance to meet up with someone who has. But if you or anyone you know who has these or any other mixers that aren’t yet compatible with the Innofader, please just let me know and I can guide you through the process. This usually involves just taking a bunch of pics and measurements.
Learning a lot about Innofader stuff from the mini Innofader. We’re currently in the process of fine tuning the production process to get really tight cut-ins without bleeding and without extensive hand testing. We’re using special calipers which can measure movements as small as 0.01mm and checking all sorts of calibration machines and even mini Innofader software to make this happen. The special rubber stoppers we use to give Innofaders that comfortable bounce actually compress about 0.6mm if you press them hard. Even light pressing will compress the rubber about 0.1 to 0.2mm. And if you release the stem while it’s at the endpoint, it may bounce back slightly from the endpoint. All of this affects calibration. And the interesting thing is with the right combination of software changes and tweaking calibration fixtures to give them the “optimal pressure” at the endpoints we can get things really tight and accurate.
This all makes me rethink the calibration process for future models. It may turn out that by recalibrating you are actually making the cut-ins less rather than more accurate. Working on retail version on the mini Innofader. I’m thinking it will make more sense to just have a direct tapping action so you can say shift the cut-in point by 0.05mm on each push.
Maybe one of these days I’ll learn to scratch, but for the sake of all of your ears, maybe it’s better if I stick to designing products…
See you @ NAMM!

America the Disorganized?
As Americans we value the right to vote. Since I’m living in Taiwan I’m doing this whole process by absentee ballot.
I find it disturbing that after going through all of the effort to register for an absentee ballot, fill out and mail the ballot four weeks ago, and follow through with the Orange County Registrar of Voters by email, my vote still “has not been received”. Can we Americans get our act together?
The contact person at the Orange County Registrar of Voters is Jessica.Castaneda@rov.ocgov.com, tel: (714) 567-7560. Is there actually anyone competent handling this? The email conversation I had with Jessica makes me wonder:

What Happened to Moog Audio?
Moog Audio was stocking and handling Innofaders for quite some time in Canada. Then something strange happened. They placed an order but kept dragging their feet on paying for and completing the order. The same time they were telling customers things like “the factory is out of stock” and “there’s a problem on their end” etc.
I only found out about this when an irate customer told me that Moog had him make a deposit for product. The customer was waiting for weeks and Moog kept telling him that WE were out of stock when THEY were delaying payment for their stocking order. When the customer reflected the truth back to Moog, Moog decided rather than coming clean with their customers, it was easier to just drop the entire product line, scapegoat me, and continue lying to everyone.
Whatever happened to good ole business, helping out customers, doing honest business, supplying product? Is it really that difficult?
